Management of an industrial enterprise’s economic potential: A decision support system

Abstract

Introduction. The article is devoted to the problems of improving the management of the industrial enterprises’ economic potential. This is relevant these days due to the dynamic changes in the environment caused by the accelerating scientific and technological progress. Current circumstances demand a timely response to emerging problems and opportunities, as well as proactive management decisions.

Purpose. The article aims at designing the most rational and adequate decision support system (DSS) for modern conditions. This system should provide both information and cognitive support for the decision-making process.

Materials and Methods. The research methodology is based on classical and modern theories of strategic planning and management, as well as the models of sustainable development and endogenous economic growth.

Results. The authors propose an approach to building a DSS. Its novelty lies in the integration of the author’s concept of economic potential management at an industrial enterprise, modern management tools (Balanced Scorecard, Foresight, Benchmarking, Life-Cycle Management, Value-Based Management, etc.), and innovative information technologies. Special attention is paid to the DSS architecture as the basis of management system: the logical strategic management of the company’s economic potential is built, the vectors of foresight research and BSC perspectives are highlighted, the balanced scorecard system is characterized by the key elements of the company’s economic potential, the methodology for calculating the integral Total Enterprise Value indicator is refined, and the key blocks of the DSS are identified and described.

Conclusions. The approach proposed in this paper to build a decision support system for managing economic potential can be used in the practices of industrial enterprises.
